The Nine Principals of Haedong Kumdo


- You must always handle a wooden sword with caution, as if it were a real sword
- In training you must always attempt to achieve a union between your mind, body and the sword
- Anyone who practices with the sword should understand the mean of all movements, so that they are not executed carelessly and without thought
- The sword is a tool to be used for Kumdo forms, which is the formal way to practicing the way of the sword (Kumdo)-The practice of Haedong Kumdo is a way to discipline, purify and tranquilize the body and mind, thus it must not be thought of or executed casually
- During practicing with the sword, the practitioner must not be hindered by distractions of the surrounding, but must always maintain a collected and focused attitude, to ensure that they can train with a dedicated effort
- Anyone who owns a sword or practices Haedong Kumdo, must be considerate, humble and open minded towards
-others Practicing with the sword is beneficial to one's health and vitality
- A practitioner of Haedong Kumdo must always be respectful and grateful to his/her teacher for teaching him/her the ways of the sword. Maintaining this attitude will allow you to gain wisdom
